GIRLS ROCK

BE BRAVE

In 2012, I enrolled in GIRLS ROCK, a music education program to learn to sing, write songs, and play guitar.

GIRLS ROCK programs use music as the vehicle to empower girls and build self-esteem. Through GIRLS ROCK I learned that >70% of girls don’t feel, “good enough,” and and for most girls, the feeling of worthlessness is part of their everyday life.

GIRLS ROCK encouraged me to make noise, to take up space, and most of all to believe that I am enough. They don’t teach girls to be perfect, they encourage us to be BRAVE.

My first band & album at GIRLS ROCK

At eight years old I started my first rock band The Blue Dolphins at GIRLS ROCK, and started writing original music, learning to play instruments, and I began performing on stage. Over the last ten years, I have rocked out at music venues across my city and had the opportunity to collaborate with hundreds of other amazing girls.

At 12, I wrote and recorded my first album titled, “Golden Gate,” and I made hundreds of CDs which I sold at coffee shops around town. I donated all the sales to GIRLS ROCK for scholarships so all girls can attend the program, which often gave me free lessons, and which transformed my life.
